MR. & MS. GROUNDHOG CROWNED!
Congratulations to Laurel & Craig for finally making it to the top!
Get to know a little bit about the most famous mammal-themed pageant winners in North Carolina.
Laurel:
Laurel was brought up in a strictly squirrel type family. For years she had secret aspirations of becoming Ms. Groundhog but her fear of shadows kept limiting her potential. In 2004 Laurel won her 6th straight Ms. Squirrel Universe, surpassing Vladia Koloff the legendary Siberian Squirrel of the 80's, for the most consecutive titles. The Guinnuts Book of World Records added a complete chapter to honor Laurel's accomplishments.
Although Laurel held every squirrel title possible, she would never be truly happy until she held that coveted Ms. Groundhog title. Laurel spent hours each day trying to build up the courage to look directly into her own shadow but to no avail.
Laurel had a life changing encounter in 2007 when she was attending a Groundhog Help Club. She crossed paths with Shazbu Amintanga, world-renowned Groundhog self-help guru. Shazbu helped Laurel realize that inside every beautiful squirrel there is a magnificent groundhog. The 13 months of intense psychological training that Laurel underwent with Shazbu gave her the confidence to try out for the nOg Club Ms. Groundhog 2009.
Laurel, you made it!
Craig:
Heard there was free food.
Laurel & Craig's legacy will live on forever in the trophy case in Tir na nOg, by the bathrooms.
